UMEK’s record label 1605 continues its Desiderati 4 series of mixed artist EPs, which works on a concept of featuring four pounding techno tracks that are each made by a different producer.
Often, it’s a platform that introduces new artists to the 1605 audience alongside a lead track made by one of the label’s most famous artists. This time it’s Sam WOLFE leading the charge with “Running From Yourself.”
Sam WOLFE has become a regular 1605, and his tracks on the label often chart in the sales charts of sites like Beatport.
The other tracks come from Kos:mo and Phoenix Movement, and then there is a collaboration between Førehand & Rooney Nasr. All of those artists are new to the 1605 roster, and there is always a good chance that this will be the first of many appearances on the label.
Several 1605 mainstays, such as Sam WOLFE and Mha iri, have debuted on the label via Desiderati 4 compilations, and UMEK is known for championing fresh talent.
The tracks exude elements standard to the 1605 style, such as chunky kick drums and a pulsating bassline overlayered with thrashing hi-hats.
Sam WOLFE’s “Running From Yourself” is characterised by the suspense of its epic breakdown. Kos:mo’s “Voices From Above” by the irresistible energy of the lead synth and pitched vocals. Phoenix Movement’s “With You” by compelling vocals, and Førehand & Rooney Nasr’s “Never Know” has the euphoria of its lead synth.
