Leading social media brand TikTok is to launch a new music distribution platform called SoundOn, which promises artists 100% of their royalties for the first year and a further 90% every year. Artists will also pay zero fees and be able to access a suite of professional tools and industry help.
Creators will be able to upload their music directly to TikTok’s native music streaming service and parent company ByteDance, Resso, in addition to major DSPs like Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer.
As TikTok continue to realise the true power and potential of their ever-evolving platform – they remain committed to offering artists a fairer and more appealing place to share their work whilst retaining all rights to said content.
While most distributors tend to offer all earnings to artists, they often come with charges per song or release – whereas SounOn aims to remove that overhead entirely. This USP alone could potentially attract a surge of artists in the direction of the new platform; if it doesn’t, then the promotional tools and support for music makers may sway anyone sitting on the fence.
SoundOn has been in Beta testing since the tail end of 2021 and is now fully available in the US, UK, Brazil, and Indonesia.
