We’ve all been there; there’s nothing worse than forgetting your ID. It’s a royal pain in the backside, but it could soon be just a distant memory.
The Home Office has begun trialling the 1account app, which could replace traditional ID cards and passports within the next twelve months.
1account allows you to enter your details and generate a digital proof of ID on your smartphone. The app is currently being accepted at Tru Nightclub in Camberley until the end of June.
Speaking to iNews, 1account founder and chief executive Ben Keirle said: “The number of photo IDs left in the location after a night out is significant, and not only is a passport expensive to replace, it’s risky to lose in terms of identity theft.
“Using digital IDs will also help door staff to get customers inside the 750 person-capacity club more quickly.”
The Home Office is also looking to extend the same process into the retail sector. Supermarkets such as Tesco, ASDA and Morrisons could also introduce AI-powered software that can predict whether shoppers are of legal age to buy alcohol and other restricted items.
