The Chemical Brothers, Charlotte De Witte and Arca first announced for Sonar 2022

Plans for the future are already taking shape as Sonar have revealed the first phase lineup for their flagship Barcelona festival.

With the global pandemic showing some signs of slowing down, and vaccine programmes taking place on a mass scale, the festival season in 2022 is set to be one of the biggest comebacks for electronic music in recent times.

Sonar have wasted no time as they release the first phase lineup for 2022.

Stealing the headlines is the announcement of The Chemical Brothers, who will be appearing with a combination of new music and an exciting new A/V show. Several other live shows will be on display from the likes of Arca, Oneohtrix Point Never and the ever-popular Joy Orbison. The initial drop of DJ sets has also been revealed as Charlotte De Witte, The Blessed Madonna and Richie Hawtin jet in amongst a host of other highly-revered names.

The music diversity at the three-day festival is evident once more, with AJ Tracey, Polo & Pan, Sega Bodega and Morad showcasing their unique styles.

Sonar has also released news of two upcoming shows for this year. The S+T+ARTS AI and Music Festival (October 27th and 28th), and SonarCCCB (October 29th and 30th). Both mini-festivals will involve in-person and digital events, including live performances, DJ sets, workshops and debates.

Sonar is teaming up with the Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona (UPC) and Beteve for the AI and Music Festival with a focus on artificial intelligence and the different ways technology can affect music creation.

SonarCCCB will focus on the music side with stages dedicated to live performances and an array of debates and workshops. This will be housed within Barcelona’s Centre De Cultura Contemporania.

Both events have been scheduled to include in-person activities and cater to a wider audience with several online exclusives. Presale ticket registration is now underway, and you can sign up here.
