Sven Väth, known by many as Papa Sven, had this to say about the last 12-18 months :
“When you cannot play music – make some.”
A poignant yet succinct message and this is exactly what the German techno powerhouse has done. Firstly delivering a new single titled ‘Feiern’ on his Cocoon Recordings imprint then for extra measure, the announcement of a new album titled ‘Catharsis’ due to land next year.
Similar to many artists during the pandemic, Sven has used this time to lock himself away in the studio and create magic. Sven teamed up with the renowned production maestro Gregor Tresher to create some musical catharsis. Hence the aptly titled album.
The first single off of the album ‘Feiern’ is a call from Sven inviting us back to the dance floors after our forced hiatus. The track is tied together by a dark drone synth which continues throughout the production. Meanwhile, an intricate combination of arpeggio synth work, 808 style drums and shakers give the track a feeling of hope and joy. Finally rounded off by German spoken word vocal panning left and right for stereo effect, with the spoken word loosely translated to describe the feeling of being on the dancefloor again. The result is a deep dark melodic yet uplifting slice of techno.
