The Italian based Moan Recordings has been focusing on dancefloor house, tech and techno-influenced stompers since its 2011 inception. With a long-standing affinity with some of the scene’s most recognised talent, the imprint has seen chart-topping releases from the likes of Metodi Hristov, Leon, Yaya and Rich Nxt.
Israeli underground house hotshot Stephan Bazbaz is the next to carry the brightly lit torch and welcomes the incredible Ukrainian DJ/Producer iO Mulen with a jaw-dropping and uptempo minimal cut selection. A release that is certain to leave a positive stamp on the label.
The EP title track ‘Mount Jasmin’ starts the story with versions from both Bazbaz and iO Mulen. The Bazbaz original offers up a track full of questions and answers. Powerful energy provides the backdrop and works harmoniously with a series of infectious synth patterns and dark stabs.
The iO Mulen rework keeps the tempo beautifully but changes the angle with a wonderful piano hook. This rework focuses on a rolling groove whilst its predecessor introduces an emphasis on breakdowns and drops. Both tracks are packed full of quality production weapons to fill the dancefloor with some serious shape-cutting antics.
‘Dr600’ continues the journey and is a punchy minimal roller. Intricate synth patterns make the difference in this track as it rolls into a raw and authentic dubby groove.
The story closes with the slightly darker-toned ‘On The Record’. The only track on the EP with a vocal sample and has been altered with FX control. The finale track is an uptempo brain teaser that will provoke thought through its melody switch-ups.
Mount Jasmin EP is out now on Moan Recordings.
