After several months of testing, Spotify has rolled out its new interactive karaoke mode. It allows users to sing along to their favourite tracks whilst the app judges the accuracy of their lyrical recital.
Spotify’s karaoke mode requires no additional equipment – making it a brilliant option for party games and compulsive singers.
The new feature is available to all users, not just premium subscribers, and is currently being rolled out in waves globally. To access karaoke mode, you will need to make sure your Spotify app is updated to the latest version.
Aside from the novelty upside, some users will have understandable concerns about data privacy. There is a big chance that the app is collecting samples of users’ voices to add to the rest of the data it shares with third-party advertisers.
Here’s how to acces the new karaoke feature (if enabled in your app):
- Choose a song you really want to sing out loud and play it.
- Find the ‘Lyrics’ section on the app and tap it.
- On the top right-hand of the lyrics, tap ‘Sing’.
- Lyrics will appear on screen with an audio analyser.
