Israeli-born, New York-based pairing Shahar and Motum are two names now embedded within the Big Apple’s electronic music landscape. Holding down residencies and making regular appearances across the city’s finest venues (including Output, Pacha NYC, and Cielo), the pair have established themselves as DJs of note within its rich scene. Outside of the booth, they have also grown in stature by releasing productions via Nervous, Culprit, and Inmotion Music – gaining support from Guy Gerber and Danny Tenaglia.
Their latest release comes in the form of a four-track offering on Steve Lawler’s renowned VIVa MUSiC imprint. Shahar & Motum’s ‘Take Some Time’ blends different soundscapes and influenced arrangements, wandering the broader range of house and tech in all of its glory.
The release opens with the title track, Take Some Time. You can expect a darkened and rolling affair with swinging rhythm and a plethora of percussive factors that ripple up and down throughout. Beyond that, acid leads and a rhythmic sub push through its core – giving it character and grit to go with its late-night jungle journey aesthetic.
Next up, Slippin bleeds New York City from start to finish. Reminiscent of the city’s historical funk and soul roots, its upbeat and groove-laden aura invites you to dive in and shake loose from the outset. Nothing but pure vibes with this one!
Enlisting the assistance of multi-faceted artist Vanjee for Moonwalker, the duo carves out a driving flurry of intensely rhythmic cadence – focusing on piercing crisp mid and high frequencies. A rambunctious bed of percussive flair keeping you on your toes for the duration.
Closing the release, Pleasures welcomes a final collaboration alongside Argentinian-born, NYC-raised DJ and producer Patrick Grooves. It takes you back into the bouncing tribal-tinged tech realm and is another quintessentially hip-shaking affair. Jungle drums, another captivatingly rhythmic bassline and swirling vocal cuts make this very hard to put down.
Shahar & Motum’s Take Some Time EP is out now via VIVa MUSiC.
