Robbie Akbal puts out a spectacular organic house release that includes Alex Twin and Jim Rider remixes.
The release titled ‘Phangan’ features an original solo track by the same name, and it’s an exciting piece of music built around a sitar played by Sidartha Siliceo. Robbie Akbal’s studio talents are on full display with the production of his track, as it showcases the high-standard he has featured on labels such as Sol Selectas and Crosstown Rebels.
This release is out via Robbie Akbal’s record label Midnight Riders, which is a sister imprint to his long-standing imprint Akbal Music.
Alex Twin is an artist from Dubai who is a driving force within the country’s organic house scene, and he has also released music on respected labels, including Bar 25 Music.
Jim Rider is a UK-based artist from London who has been making waves within the organic house community following a series of releases on labels run by Lee Burridge, such as All Day I Dream. He has also worked with Robbie Akbal’s Akbal Music, so it’s nice to see him feature on Midnight Riders.
Opening the release is the original mix of “Phangan”, and complementing the sitar is a pulsating synth and sparse pad sweeps. A steady groove held by the stripped-back percussion leaves space to let the synths and sitar move without restriction as they intertwine.
Alex Twin’s remix of Phangan seems to follow a similar structure to the original, but he works in his lead synth to replace the original’s. He also adds more percussion to thicken the overall sound of the track.
Jim Rider’s remix is a trippy version that uses only spare bits of sitar washed with effects to transform the instrument’s sound. It has a new bassline and pads that define this hallucinatory remix, full of mind-bending sounds.
