WetYourSelf delivers a fresh minimal four-tracker in their latest EP drop, delivered by the imprints part-owner Peter Pixzel.
London based Peter Pixzel has built quite the reputation for raw and authentic production, which offers an array of intricate patterns packed full of infectious soul and groove. The Dane continues to grow his admirer list, in part through his Fabric showcases and, more so, with this latest production masterclass.
‘Rogue 9 EP’ certainly packs a punch with a delightfully dubby four-track release, with the title track offering two alternative mix versions.
Below, we take a look at the beautifully constructed ‘Rogue 9’ and the spin side’s ‘Fulby’.
Rogue 9 offers a multitude of layers that fuse seamlessly to create an infectious bounce. The lead track is one of progression as it works through its question and answer sequence, which offers a consistent role reversal of answers, giving the track a mind-challenging perspective. The crisp synth keyboard elements provide the hook that eases it into an exquisite roll, building on the dubby underbelly that sets the tone. Rogue 9 is one of those peak time warehouse stompers guaranteed to raise eyebrows.
The lead track comes with two alternative versions with a darker edge.
Firstly the ‘Cesare vs Disorder remix’ creeps with a sultry mood running at its heartbeat. The re-ordered synth pattern adds a lighter contrast and offers an almost spooky feel to proceedings.
The next version – ‘Doubtingthomas’ remix tinkers even more frequently with the darker side of the track. A highly filtered bassline rolls through with an even more eerie collection of spooky sounds that change the whole complexion of the original. This is for the dark basements and rave caves.
On the flip, ‘Fulby’ is certainly influenced by a Jazz nuance. Maintaining the tempo of the title track, a slightly different stance is taken as the track builds a patterned twist throughout by taking the production on a different directional path. ‘Fulby’ is understated but oozes class. The jazzy intricacies reverberate in the mind and imprint the hook firmly in the musical memory bank.
Overall, the EP is packed full of light and dark contrast, leaving no room for any grey area! The bouncy tempos turn each track into a shape-cutting tick list and will certainly get those feet stomping.
