Review: hedZup label boss WLAD drops ‘Gym Tonic’ on Bamboleo Records

WLAD has become a mainstay in the world of minimal house, building an impressive back catalogue of inimitable productions on his renowned Hedzup Records label. WLAD’s productions are renowned for being drenched in melody and infectious rhythms. This has seen him rub shoulders with the best in the business, receiving regular support from Archie Hamilton, iO Mulen, Jamie Jones, DJ Steaw and Diego Krause.

WLAD continues in very much the same spirit, with this next EP on Bamboleo. It’s easy to see why they have snapped up WLAD for this release.

The lead track ‘Gym Tonic’ leads with some funky drums and meticulously layered percussion and in true WLAD style bringing in an infectiously warm bassline accompanied by warm keys and bright pads. The result is a funky soulful number set to send warmth across dancefloors around the world.

Following on comes ‘Chardonnay’ laced in jazzy undertones and a jacking groove. A more raw sound with cheeky jazz piano keys, oozing sub-bass giving the track a fruity feel, an irresistible force set to make the most stationery of people move.

The final remedy in this triumvirate tonic is ‘Doctor Flavor’ is packed with swinging drums and off-kilter fills, resulting in a wobbly slice of dance music. Perfect for when you’re deep into the after-hours!
