Review: Emotive Melodic Techno titans Agents of Time return to Afterlife Records

The Italian duo Agents of Time are known for their hardware-centric improvised live sets. The pair’s live shows span the realms of house, techno and acid, taking listeners on an otherworldly journey.

They are best known for their breakout debut album on Stem Records back in 2014, quickly followed by hit EP’s on Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio, their own imprint Obscura and Curle Recordings. While developing a longstanding relationship with Tale of Us and their label Afterlife which has now become a home from home for the duo.

This latest offering carries on very much in the same style their fans have grown accustomed to, reaffirming this is not form but permanent class.

The lead track ‘Mirage’ engulfs the listener with atmospheric synths and warm pads from the get-go. In true Agents of Time fashion, the record is tied together with swinging frequencies and an ethereal riff to boot. It will move many, physically and emotionally.

‘Northern Lights’ is a beautifully delicate piece of music, with subtle elements layered throughout building emotion and energy as it progresses. A truly masterful way to cap off another spectacular EP from the duo.
