A new study has revealed that half of those who go to gigs in the UK may be in danger of experiencing hearing loss.
TicketSwap, who collaborated with the UK Hearing Conservation Association and Kultlab, conducted a survey which revealed a concerning statistic as part of its #dontmissabeat campaign. Further, the study showed that just under half of those polled had knowledge of tinnitus.
The study’s findings, published in February 2023, showed that half of the British gig-goers have experienced ringing in their ears, with only 10% taking the precaution of wearing earplugs.
Clare Forshaw, the Founder and Director of the UK Hearing Convention Association, commented that exposure to sound levels that surpass 100dB at concerts and festivals, even for a short time, can be detrimental and may lead to conditions such as deafness, tinnitus, oversensitivity to noise, as well as the possibility of early onset dementia and cognitive impairment.
The #dontmissabeat initiative was created to modify the habits of music enthusiasts concerning hearing protection. All the details of the research can be identified here.
A previous study discovered that more than one billion teenagers were in danger of experiencing hearing loss due to their “unsafe listening practices”, according to DJMag.com. This research follows from that.
