A collection of extraordinary Studio 54 images and a new 8-bit video game centred around the infamous nightclub developed into NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
The collaboration between Bill Bernstein, New York nightlife documentarian and, SuperRare marketplace will bring this unique collection together to raise money for several charities.
The auction for these unique collections was presented by SuperRare on 22nd September and also included nightlife pictures from renowned nightclub Paradise Garage.
The first section of the collection contains four visual works, including digitised film photographs, collages and multimedia slideshows, in never before seen photographs from the height of the nightclubs fame and the peak of disco’s popularity, between 1977 and 1981.
Bill Bernstein was considered the first to capture pictures at these iconic venues, as he built a reputation as a New York nightlife photographer and documentarian. The contents of the artworks feature dancefloor imagery, party people, and Patrick Cowley, producer and pioneer of the High NRG sound.
Another NFT focused around the Paradise Garage is included in the series of artwork collection drops. Resulting in a final sale on Monday 11th October, which also happened to be National Coming Out Day in the US. The project proceeds will be donated to the LGBTQ+ organisation, The Marsha P Johnson Institute.
Further to these unique collections, SuperRare Labs collaborated with Studio 54 on an 8-bit video game titled ‘PIXEL 54’, presented as NFT works. This special collaboration was split into four drops, with the last coming on Friday 15th October. Each of the drops features a one of its kind loopable pixel art animation, produced by Uriel Gomez and Victor Athayde.
These unique collections wouldn’t be complete without their original music. The music comes from the offshoot label Studio 54 Music – which launched in 2020.
