London could be about to lose another of its nightlife venues as plans have been submitted to turn the Printworks site into a lavish office space. However, talks are currently ongoing to include the venue as part of the plans.
Property developer British Land has submitted plans to Southwark Council for the construction of offices in the building that houses London’s already iconic Printworks nightclub.
The former printing press was purchased by British Land back in 2012. British Land subsequently granted permission for events management company Broadwick Live to operate and host the building as the venue, Printworks London.
Printworks opened with a 6,000 capacity in 2017 and quickly distinguished itself as one of the capital‘s premier clubbing venues. Printworks is known for its spectacular production shows within its industrial style aesthetic. The venue has played host to the world’s biggest DJs and performers.
British Land has now submitted a Reserved Matters Application (RMA) to Southwark Council for “a sustainable office-led redevelopment of the Printworks building.”
A separate RMA has also been submitted to build a new road called Printworks Street along the top of the Printworks site. Each site is “located within an area known as ‘Zone H’ of the Canada Water Masterplan.”
The CWM website states: “The proposals for a sustainable office-led development in ‘Zone H’ include ground-floor retail, improved landscaping, and the creation of new routes through the site, celebrating the raw and industrial character of the existing building while bringing its appearance up to a modern standard.”
Discussions are ongoing between British Land and Broadwick Live regarding the venue‘s future, but it is believed to be part of the plans for the Canada Water regeneration.
