Tim Westwood, a former BBC Radio 1 DJ, has been interviewed twice by London Metropolitan Police regarding potential sex offences.
As reported by the BBC, the MPS has commenced an inquiry into five allegations of impropriety against the DJ, with formal interviews scheduled for 15 Mar and 4 Apr. No arrest has been made as of yet.
A media expose from last year with several women’s claims of sexual misconduct against Westwood has prompted a police investigation.
Multiple women reported that, following their agreement to a meeting with the DJ to explore their professional possibilities in music, he had applied pressure for them to engage in sexual activities. Additionally, some declared that he had touched them inappropriately when they were posing for pictures at functions.
From 1994 to 2013, reports of numerous occurrences were made while the BBC employed Westwood. Upon being questioned, the BBC initially declared that no claims had been made regarding the DJ while he was still hosting on their radio channels.
The BBC later found out there had been complaints against DJ Tim Westwood before the April documentary. To investigate the matter further and to determine awareness and response from previous BBC management, the broadcaster instigated an independent review which is still in progress.
The Metropolitan Police are reported to be looking into alleged offences that are said to have taken place between 1982 and 2016. Westwood has consistently repudiated all the accusations of wrongdoing brought against him.
