Berlin-based South Korean DJ and producer Peggy Gou has always had a low key and somewhat minimal release schedule despite being a prominent and widely adored artist on the global stage. When the world ground to a halt, so did the music. However, with the world starting to open up and the roadmap out of the pandemic continuing to take shape, a flood of new music is beginning to bring love back to the scene.
Peggy Gou has dropped her first release in two years, and it’s a breezy and floaty ’90s-inspired dance track – “Nabi.” The track features vocalist Oh Hyuk, the lead singer of the Korean rock band Hyukoh.
Gou spoke ahead of the release and said:
“We’ve all been through so much over the last year and it’s about facing up to the problems and negativity in our lives and learning how to deal with it. It’s also about acceptance—accepting that it’s OK to feel this way. When people hear ‘Nabi,’ they’ll hopefully feel the same sense of healing—that feeling that everything’s going to be OK—that I feel when I listen to the songs that inspired it.”
It is certainly a breath of fresh air as it maintains her unique production frequency but offers a feeling of hope and reflection.
Nabi feat. OHHYUK is out now via Gudu Records.
