The club collective in The Netherlands are uniting in protest of COVID restrictions and will open their doors for one night only.
The lockdown measures have had a devastating effect on the hospitality sector in the country, and the scheduled action is part of a nationwide stand against policy.
The De Nacht Staat Op protest (translating to The Night Stands protest) will take place on February 12 seeing clubs all over the country reopen their doors from 9 PM in a night of unity.
Nightclubs in the Netherlands have only had a few weeks of respite since the start of the pandemic, with a total closure time of nearly two years. In December, further extensions were put in place with the understanding that the nightlife ban would come to pasture on January 9th.
With clubs now reopening all across Europe, the Dutch partygoers are demanding an easing of measures. The nation has been one of the hardest hit with restriction policy.
“It is frustrating. Dutch young people need this, their mental health is bad. And you see more and more illegal parties where it’s not safe,” said Amsterdam Chicago Social Club owner Pieter de Kroon.
Restrictions will end on March the 8th, although the continual pushbacks have left club owners feeling that this date will be unlikely.
