A 23-year-old man has died following a stabbing on the dancefloor at popular Birmingham venue, CRANE.

The incident took place inside the club during a Boxing Day event with Marco Carola headlining. Police were called to the scene following the stabbing at around 23:45, but the man was sadly pronounced dead 30 minutes later despite attempts to save his life.

West Midlands Police have launched a murder investigation following the incident, and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the incident.

Speaking about the incident, West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood said: “This was a young man enjoying himself with friends on a Boxing Day night out,”

“We know there were hundreds of people in the nightclub at the time,” she added. “While we’ve spoken to a number of them already, we still need to hear from anyone who was there and who witnessed or even filmed what happened.”

Several attendees have shared their thoughts on the incident and the venue online, with many questioning the lack of security and the crowd’s behaviour during the event.

In response to the fatal incident, CRANE shared a statement on Instagram: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened a man lost his life last night as our Boxing Day event came to a close. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family and friends.”

“We are working closely with West Midlands Police as they investigate this crime. We encourage anybody who witnessed this incident, or has any information to share which may help West Midlands Police, to contact them directly.

“We do not feel it is right to hold our New Years Eve event under these circumstances. All ticket holders will be contacted directly and refunded by the relevant ticket providers.”
