A sad but true statement applicable to life on many levels: “all good things must come to an end.”
In this case, that saying relates to renowned London-based events organiser LWE and their partnership with one of the capital’s best-known event venues, Tobacco Dock.
The Grade I listed former tobacco storehouse has become home to over 300,000 ravers since opening nine years ago, transforming a disused warehouse into one of London’s most sought-after clubbing destinations.
LWE’s founder, Will Harold, says: “As the spiritual home of LWE, Tobacco Dock has long been an important part of our story, an incredible journey and something we’ll always look at with a real sense of achievement.”
“It’s rare for a party to continue for so long in a city that is densely populated and rife with development; after nearly nine years and over 50 major events in the venue, it’s time for this particular party to come to an end. Halloween weekend 2022 will represent the final LWE events to take place at Tobacco Dock.”
After reflecting on highlights, including the Launch, the annual Drumcode Halloween events and New Year’s Day, he continues: “Changes to the landscape for promoters in recent years, the worsening cost of living crisis and so much more, mean it’s becoming harder and harder to promote events in a venue of this size and layout, not least in terms of calls from local residents for a change of pace in the area. Leaving isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly.”
“We want to thank everyone who has worked, built, played, sung, laughed, cried and danced with us,” Harold concludes, adding: “There are so many memories for us in that building. Huge thanks to Jonnie and Patrick and all the team at Tobacco Dock. The LWE family look forwards to new adventures on the horizon.”
LWE’s “last dance” Halloween weekend commences on October 29 with Claptone’s The Masquerade and will end with FUSE on October 30.
