The ‘Laurent Garnier: Off the Record’ documentary will premiere on 11th July at the Manchester International Festival. The film documents the origins and rise of Techno as a genre in electronic dance music and popular culture.
The documentary is presented from the perspective of Laurent Garnier the legendary techno DJ, it will explore his experiences during the rise within Paris and Manchester scenes during the 1990’s.
As a DJ he would make frequent trips across to Manchester to the infamous Hacienda as well as other key venues that were integral to the success of techno on a global scale.
At the premiere, there will be an opportunity for visitors to take part in a Q&A after the screening, with Garnier himself, the Director Gabin Rivoire as well as residents of the Hacienda Dave Haslam and Jon Dasilva.
The film features a combination of tour footage, interviews, archival footage offering a view into the late 1980s when techno emerged from Detroit and England, following Laurent Garnier’s career, spanned over three decades.
