After several collaborative releases, Andrea Fratangelo (of Crookers fame) and Manny Lateulade joined forces under the guise of newfound duo Unidos.
Their first official release, ‘Todo Empezara‘, comes on Riva Starr’s renowned Snatch! Records imprint, landing on 13th October.
Ahead of their upcoming two-track EP, we caught up with Andrea and Manny and got to know about the creation of Unidos as well as its driving forces and plans for the future:
Hey guys, thanks for joining us. Tell us what the name Unidos means, how you came together, and the direction of your new duo pairing.
Unidos was actually the name of an EP we released in 2019 for Insomniac Records. It was the first of two collaborative EPs, which led us to explore working together further. During Covid, we decided to continue focusing on a body of work that later sparked the idea of starting a duo. The name, music and vision all came together pretty effortlessly.
Your first release comes out on Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records. Was there any particular influence or messaging behind the EP?
One of our many influences aside from the music itself is venues. Of course, imagining paying homage to monumental spaces like The Warehouse and Paradise Garage, but Sucias specifically was made with Space Miami in mind. Imagining the energy from those kinds of rooms and turning them into songs was a fun approach. As far as messaging goes, The single ‘Todo Empezo’ has lyrics that translate to “Everything Started with One Song.” It was a great track to have on our initial offering.
Talk us through your creative process. Do you have individual specialities, or is there a specific structure to your sessions?
It’s case by case with every song, but our strengths don’t overlap, so it’s easy and fun for us to collaborate. On the technical side, our DAW of choice is Ableton, and Andrea is a Beta tester for some mixing and mastering plugins, so we’re always trying to push things a bit further with the most current technology afforded to us.
What inspires you to make music, and what do you aim to achieve through sharing your work with the world?
The joy of making music is the main driving force. Life can get pretty monotonous, but music always seems to make every day a bit better. Creating something from nothing that could potentially make people happy is the best reward.
Lastly, what can we expect from Unidos in the future?
We have quite a few tracks lined up for 2023, one of which includes another EP on Snatch. The vision extends past music, but that’s all we can say right now.
Unidos’ ‘Todo Empezara‘ EP is out on 13th October on Snatch! Records.
