Community is at the core of Amelie Lens’ EXHALE brand values, and this is the second summer where they will host their special community meet-ups every Wednesday at one of Ibiza up and coming venues – NUI. The pre-party mixer for like-minded people before things shift gear and head over to DC-10 for EXHALE every Wednesday throughout the summer.
A money-can’t-buy opportunity was opened to fans of the brand in May for anyone to submit a 1-hour mix to Amelie and the team to be in with a chance of winning a slot playing at both NUI and DC-10.
After 500 mixes, 20 days of listening and reviewing, the EXHALE team crowned Ibiza-based DJ MØSENGGE as their winner.
After almost 12 years of experience in music, practising at home and parties with friends, he leapt to DJing with the public in restaurants on the island. After his time in Madrid, where he studied music production, he discovered the techno scene, and his music changed to a darker, more underground style.
We’re delighted to welcome MØSENGGE ahead of his performance on 2nd August, where he joins Amelie Lens, Airod, Ben Sims, Dubfire, SPFDJ and more. He joins us for an Inside Five interview below:
Tell us about MØSENGGE: the meaning of the name, the ethos, sound and everything else that defines you as an artist.
MØSENGGE comes from a pair of Tibetan names. Before, I used my own name, but I decided to give myself a more underground name. And one day, testing names, I put together a few words from my name and a couple more from two others, and MØSENGGE came out.
About my style of music, it’s usually quite dark. I love the atmosphere and hypnotic sounds and the acid and industrial sound.
On the dancefloor, I like to take people on a trip where they are happy and enjoying my set.
You recently won a competition to play for Amelie Lens at her EXHALE residency in Ibiza. What can you tell us about that experience and its meaning to you?
For me, it’s one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, DJing for his party and at DC10, it’s something incredible.
Out of more than 500 people, the fact that I have been the winner is quite an achievement for me; it has given me more confidence in myself and a lot of strength to continue with what comes next.
The sound of techno is a rapidly changing concept, especially over the last half-decade. Where can you see it going, and how can you see yourself fitting into it?
I think it will be a long season because now it has a lot of strength. But there will always be the DJs and the people who will continue in their line of underground techno. I will continue as I am going. I can play something faster, which I also like, but I’ll try to keep my line doing new things.
DC-10 Ibiza is a bucket list venue for anyone passionate about electronic dance music. Does it have any special meaning to you, being from Ibiza yourself?
For me, being a resident of Ibiza and being able to play in one of the best clubs on the island and in the world, like DC10, is something amazing. Very few Ibizans manage to play there. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity – and I hope it won’t be the last.
Lastly, what are your plans for the rest of 2023 and your goals for progressing as an artist?
My plan for the rest of 2023 is to continue growing as an artist and to continue expanding the techno scene in Ibiza.
