You’d have to be buried under a rock to have not heard of Ewan McVicar over the last 12 months or so. Thrust into the spotlight off the back of his unforgettable anthem ‘Tell Me Something Good’ on Patrick Topping’s Trick imprint; the flying Scotsman hasn’t looked back since.

Fast-forward to 2022, and Ewan is finding a new level of form, with his productions continuing to refine further. His latest body of work shows a grittier and maturing side to Ayr-based talent as he comfortably exhibits some eccentrically fearless dancefloor cuts on ‘Movin’ On Over‘.

With his latest release on Optimo Music Digital Danceforce fresh in the ears of electronic music lovers around the globe, we caught up with Ewan as he becomes the next artist to join our Inside Five series:

Hey Ewan! Let’s start by talking about your latest release, ‘Movin’ On Over’; how did it come about and was there any specific inspiration behind it?

The inspiration behind the ‘Movin’ On Over’ EP was the old Optimo Trax releases. I listened to about 30 of them, then made two tracks in my head to send over to JD Twitch at Optimo Music. Optimo in themselves were a big inspiration, as I always wanted to be on their label.

You had an extremely successful year in 2021, which is even more impressive given the circumstances. Do you feel that a single release can still change the game for artists, or is this now a myth?

Thanks mate! Hmmm, I believe if you back it up and make the most of your opportunity, then yeah, one release definitely can change it all. Everyone thinks ‘Tell Me Something Good’ changed the game for me, but ‘Street Rave’ was really when I started making the most of my opportunity. This was it, and I’ve made the most of it, and I’m no stopping for no one now!

What do you like to do outside of music?

Mainly spend time with my family and friends when I can and chill on Xbox. My life outside of music is still making music mostly, haha I love it so much, man.

What is your one golden piece of advice for aspiring artists?

Be patient.

Lastly, is there anything exciting coming up in the future that you’d like to share with our audience?

I’m playing my first Boiler Room this year at FLY Openair 😀
