She is also confirmed to share stages with CamelPhat, Eli Brown, Essel, Hannah Laing, Hannah Wants, Matt Guy, Massano and Wheats.
ADRIANNA’s latest release, ‘FALLING’, landed on her Temple House Music imprint towards the end of May.
To celebrate her latest work and the exciting rest of 2023 ahead, we caught up with ADRIANNA for an Inside Five exclusive:
Hey, ADRIANNA; thanks for joining us at Mr. Afterparty. Can you tell us about your recent release, ‘FALLING’, on Temple House Music?
Thanks for having me! My latest release, ‘FALLING’, is a high-energy tech house track that has been really getting the dancefloor going in my sets. It’s got a Latin feel, with a heavy baseline, upbeat hats and English and Spanish vocals – and people have been going crazy for it!
How has your experience at Toolroom Academy helped shape your career as a DJ/Producer?
My first production class was on Reason 2.0, so that was some time ago. I’ve done various other courses in production throughout the years focusing on theory and different DAWs, but the course I did through Toolroom gave an in-depth look into Logic and Tech House specifically. The teachers at Toolroom were incredible, and they offer ongoing resources and feedback for their Alumni, which is great.
What can fans expect from your upcoming UK and European shows?
A lot of energy! I love going on a journey, playing around with different styles of house. I love playing house and techno, but ultimately, some of these subgenres become such a niche that sometimes it feels like only DJs and producers or expert music analysts know how to classify something. When I’m playing at a party, I just want the people to dance if they love the music without worrying about what to expect. I love going to see an artist that may play something different than my preferred niche, and they convince me, and I learn something, and it’s cool.
How do you approach selecting talent for your Temple House Music label?
Right now, Temple House is very much in its infancy stage. This year we are focusing on a couple of parties/events and just a few releases. In the future, I would like to grow the label into a safe place for artists from anywhere of any background that can have a place to release their dance floor destroyers that may have been overlooked by bigger labels but deserve to be heard.
As a DJ, how do you balance music that makes people dance and incorporate your personal music preferences and style into your sets?
I love dancing to house music, so if it doesn’t make me dance, there is little hope for anyone else. When I choose music, luckily for me, I like a lot of things, a lot of different sounds, instruments, styles, and genres. If I hear a song with a familiar chord progression or baseline or sample or anything where my ears perk up, I take note. Is it too recognisable that it’s overused? Is it reworked in a way that is new and interesting? People love things that are familiar, it doesn’t have to be a copy, but it triggers a memory. That’s what makes us feel things; that’s usually how I personally choose music.
