Podemos, a new political campaign, is applying pressure on the government to ban beach clubs and party hotels in Ibiza.

The group’s spokesman Fernando Gómez says:

“The group aim to end the legal limbo of one of the most important problems caused by tourism on the island of Ibiza, i.e. the serious inconvenience caused by the so-called beach clubs and hotel nightclubs.”

Podemos believe these types of venues and parties have become a “serious inconvenience” for Ibizan residents, as the music can be heard “for miles”.

The group wants open-air venues to play music at an audible volume, and those who break the rules are made to pay hefty fines.

They are also campaigning for tourists visiting the island who want to be free of any disturbance or disruption from partygoers, asking for the government to “put an end” to some of the island’s most famous nightlife venues.

Gómez claims Playa d’en Bossa is one of the worst when it comes to late-night music, and allegedly you can hear a “roar” of music for miles across the island “much to the misfortune of the thousands of people who live there.”

He also goes on to say:

“But there are several other examples of beach bars or restaurants on other beaches that have become sources of noise and disturbance,”

Furthermore, the Balearic government recently revealed a plan to improve tourism with a new tourism law, including a flurry of environmental improvements.

Regulations on the island have been tightened, resulting in a drink limit for those staying at all-inclusive resorts – with just six drinks per day allowed (three at lunch and three at dinner). Hotels and resorts found to be breaking these regulations will be liable to large fines.
