Members of the French Parliament have noticed a flaw in the government’s reopening plans, with the decision to keep nightclubs closed while swingers clubs are allowed to reopen. Yes, this was not a typo; you did not misread what we just said; it sounds absurd, right!?
France’s plans to gradually ease pandemic restrictions see the next phase implemented from 19th May, with movie theatres, retailers, and museums allowed to reopen, leaving nightclubs as one of the few sectors left in the dark when they can reopen.
The nightlife sector closed over 14 months ago, and according to an MP, causing a loss of 45,000 jobs and rising.
The May 19th reopening phase will allow many swingers clubs to reopen; this is due to some of these clubs being registered as restaurants. Euronews has reported in recent days, French Members of Parliament have pointed out how crazy this is given swingers clubs would not involve any social distancing, given their primary function involves intimate human contact.
Whereas nightclubs have no obvious or immediate pathway for when they can reopen before the proposed July reopening. President Macron’s timeline at present allows for a curfew to be set back to 23:00 by 9th June and then lifted entirely by 30th July. Until then some swingers clubs can reopen, yet nightclubs remain shut and very much with their businesses at risk.
