In El Hueli (Sorbas) in Almeria, Spain, a rave began on 31st December and was broken up by Guardia Civil four days later.
The party consisted of three stages across several hectares, with a load of caravans and cars on site. Police entered the party site on 1st January, making one arrest – the party organiser wanted on drugs charges. A further 66 people face fines for several offences, including drug possession, breaking Covid rules, ignoring road safety and endangering the surrounding environment.
The Guardia Civil couldn’t act right away as the party was attended by 1,500 people, requiring an operation plan to be put together by authorities to ensure it was safe closing down the party. It was undertaken by Guardia Civil’s elite Public Safety Unit (Usecic), taking almost three days, with the party not ending until 4th January.
A spokesman described it as “a hard to control” situation, in large part because partygoers were “intoxicated” and unable to make their way home given they had arrived by driving their vehicles to the party.
