One year on, from the announcement of Daft Punk’s retirement, the iconic duo remerged on social media, causing a meltdown.
In usual Daft Punk style, their return was mysterious, announcing not long after the one-off live stream from 1997 in Los Angeles, without their famous robot helmets.
The activity started on Wednesday 23rd February, when their Instagram account shared their artist name reminiscent of their debut album ‘Homework’ artwork with no caption.
Alongside this, they opened a Twitch channel and a Twitter account. Within the hour, they posted a flyer from their Los Angeles show on 17th December 1997 from their “Daftendirektour”, taking place at the Mayan Theatre.
Then followed, a press release announcing the one-time live stream of the show from on streaming platform Twitch.
Naturally, this activity has sparked excitement among fans, waiting in hope of a reunion tour. Although more likely promotion for the vinyl reissue of ‘Homework’ which is coming up to its 25th anniversary.
This reissue will include remixes from Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez, Junior Sanchez and more. The ‘Homework’ vinyl LP plus a vinyl reissue of ‘Alive 97’ is due for release on April 15th, you can pre-order here.
