Launched less than a year ago, Dutch imprint Up The Stuss has risen to become a must-visit label for quality productions across the house sphere, with releases from Fabe, East End Dubs, and Janeret becoming top-sellers and instant record bag mainstays.
Joining Stussy for the aptly titled ‘Get Together’ is 1/3 of Mandar and highly sought after Danish producer Samuel Andre Madsen. Throughout the eight-track project, Madsen’s presence and influence can be felt and relished exquisitely.
It can often be difficult for the true essence of artists to flourish throughout a release if the number of tracks is confined; that’s why this release differs in such a conspicuously protruding way.
From the deeper and more sirenic melodies of ‘Breather’, ‘Sonic Mana’ and ‘Never Lazy’, it’s already apparent that the release has an impressive level of finesse. The ability to craft lighter and less intense feeling club cuts that still inspire a sense of euphoria is a level of artistry most never come close to.
The slightly grittier and more deep tech-inspired cuts like ‘Spaceship’, Ethernity’, ‘Here To Catch You’ and ‘Sirine’ are still equipped with masterful levels of melodic construction. Pads, Synths, Keys, Strings, layers upon layers of rich frequencies and velvety grooves from start to finish.
Not forgetting the title track, which Chris closed his recent DJ Mag stream with at Amsterdam’s renowned STRAAT museum, ‘Get Together’ is an infectious and pacy cut with a dominating female vocal – full of soul and emotion. The archetypal rising and sweeping strings of S.A.M. and the resonant piano riffs from Stussy combine to forge a track that will have you reaching for the rewind more than once!
One of my favourite releases of the year to date – hands down. Having listened through it more than five times since it came out earlier this month, it still isn’t remotely boring or tired.
Expectedly incredible work from two of the house music universe’s brightest stars!
