Afro-House sensation Black Coffee and electronic Australian collective RÜFÜS DU SOL were among this year’s Grammy Awards winners, which took place in Las Vegas this past Sunday.
Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe “Black Coffee” Maphumulo scooped up the ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’ award for his 2021 release titled ‘Subconsciously’. Fending off tough competition from Major Lazer, Marshmello and many more, the tastemaker took home the prize off the back of his first-ever inclusion in the list of nominees.
Humble as always, Black Coffee was forthcoming in giving his thanks and praise for receipt of the award in a long and heartfelt message, saying: “I remain in awe of God’s grace and mercy; because I did not prepare a speech for the ceremony, with this post I would like to extend my gratitude.
“I thank God for the gift of music, for blessing me with a beautiful healthy family, a wonderful group of friends and fans from all corners of the world.”
Also taking home the gold, revered Australian hitmakers RÜFÜS DU SOL trumped James Blake, Caribou and David Guetta, among others, to take home the ‘Best Dance/Electronic Recording’ title for their track ‘Alive’ from the 2021 album ‘Surrender’.
RÜFÜS DU SOL took to Instagram following the 64th annual edition of the acclaimed Grammy Awards, expressing their thanks in abundance. They wrote: “What a journey! Thank you to every single one of you who has supported us and believed in us along the way. We’re just getting started 🙏✨”
