1001Tracklists has hosted the Top 101 Producers awards since 2017 & the awards go from strength to strength year on year. The awards ceremony takes place annually at the world-renowned annual electronic music conference Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).
This year’s awards took place on Wednesday 13th October and saw Brazilian DJ/producer Vintage Culture claim the top spot. He has had a stellar year with a standout remix of “Love Tonight” plus releases on iconic house music labels like Defected Records alongside dance crossovers on Spinnin’ Records and remixing artists from Tiësto to Claptone to RÜFÜS DU SOL. #2 is 2019’s champion, David Guetta.
The others included in the Top five were Kryder, trance legend Armin van Buuren and the highest ever new entrant, John Summit. Other noteworthy stats from this years Top 101 are 27 countries represented, 33 new entrants, and eight artists re-entering the Top 101.
Of equal importance, Whoa! Promo, VIRPP, and Select Radio have joined forces with 1001Tracklists for a new initiative ‘The Future Of Dance’ list, aiming to empower new women and POC producers with the hopes of seeing more underrepresented artists shine on the biggest stages. ‘The Future Of Dance’ list features 60 women and POC artists alongside the Top 101 Producers.
For those unfamiliar with the platform, we sat down with Jacob Merlin, Chief Marketing Officer at 1001Tracklists to tell us more about the platform, how it came about and how the ranking system works.
Hey Jacob, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. How did the idea for 1001Tracklists come about?
1001Tracklists initially was the vision of a single German software developer, Jahn, who created the platform. If it wasn’t for a party in Ibiza in 1999, 1001Tracklists likely would not be around today. Jahn’s love for electronic music started at a techno party where DJ Taucher and Talla 2XLC were playing. That show changed his life.
For many years, Jahn had been searching for a website where he could find tracklists for his favourite DJ sets. Since nothing sufficient existed, he built and launched the first version of 1001Tracklists in 2011.
Can you explain to our readers what 1001Tracklists is?
1001Tracklists is the world’s leading DJ tracklist database, home to 300,000+ tracklists to date. While providing tracklisting and listening for festivals, radio shows, DJ sets, podcasts, and promo mixes, 1001Tracklists has built a comprehensive database and a devoted international community, firmly establishing itself as the Wikipedia of dance music. Because of its unique insight and transparent data, the 1001Tracklists website has become a trusted reference point, industry standard, and leading media brand in electronic music.
How does the ranking system work?
The Top 101 Producers 2021 features the artists whose tracks were most supported by DJs on 1001Tracklists.com. The rankings are calculated by summing up each artist’s unique DJ support from tracklists dated between October 1, 2020, and September 30, 2021.
