Previously releasing on the likes of Snatch!, ViVa Music, CUFF, Toolroom and Club Sweat, Allen(IT) has established his name with an array of electronic sounds regularly showcasing in Ibiza, Berlin, Moscow, Miami and at home in Italy.
His latest work finds itself on Davide Squillace’s renowned This And That imprint, where Allen has previously shared his music on two other occasions.
‘It’s Something EP’ features two beautiful house cuts, ‘Heart’ and ‘It’s Something’, both inspired by the ’90s house vibe but with a current sound, perfectly mixing analogue synths, captivating vocals and powerful melodies.
We recently caught up with Allen, as he becomes the next artist to join our Inside Five series:
Hey Allen, thanks for joining us! Firstly, congrats on your release on This And That. What can you tell us about the idea around the release and how it came to happen?
Hi guys, thanks to you for having me! This And That is a top Label, and I’m thrilled to have released my third EP with them! In the last few months, I have tried to renew my sound, based on sounds aimed at the 80s. The idea was born from the fact that in recent years music has flattened out, both in terms of sounds and in terms of ideas. We find a lot of music that is flat and sounding alike at the same time. Davide liked this restyling of myself so here we are! đ
The label has become home to many of the world’s greatest electronic artists. How does it feel to say that you’re part of that family?
As said previously, TNT is an essential showcase for those who are part of the electronic music world, being part of this family is not only an honour but also an opportunity for an up and coming artist like me.
Talk us through your creative process and how you turn ideas into full-length records?
Let’s say that every time I enter the studio I don’t start from a very specific idea. My musical background varies from old school House to Acid, Funky up to the Underground of today. My projects are based on these criteria that I hardly put aside. I can tell you that my tracks are born in a natural way, one after the other without fixing a precise line.
What memory from your career holds the most sentiment and why?
I can say that I have many memories captured in these years as a DJ / producer and I could write for hours if I had to list them one by one. The thing that is most close to my heart is certainly Labium, the recording project started in 2011 which over the years has given me a lot of satisfaction, and which still gratifies me day after day, developing with my experience accumulated over the years which belongs to me 100%.
Lastly, do you have any upcoming projects or announcements you’d like to share?
After two years of a global pandemic, only a few artists can program their sets. It is starting from a situation of total stasis. My next gig will be on May 1st at “ONE DAY MUSIC” Festival with my music partner Filix next to me. A festival that has now become a reality for several years gathering more than 20,000 visitors.
Allen (IT)’s ‘It’s Something‘ EP is OUT NOW on This And That.
