Idyllic beaches, mesmeric sunsets and a vibe like none other, Ibiza remains the nightlife holiday hotspot for many. A recent poll suggests that its peak seasons were in the early 2000s.
The survey collected data from 41,814 music fans. Four in ten considered the White Isle’s immediate post-millennial years to be the era they pined for the most. A host of other significant dance music eras also featured in the poll, including the late-1980s rave and acid house period (26%) and the birth of jungle and drum & bass in the 1990s (21%).
The study, collated by Virgin Media, ran alongside the launch of Club Rewind – the UK’s first nomadic party – aiming to take revellers back to the period. DJ legends that made the era so successful have been earmarked for the launch, including Carl Cox and Pete Tong. The show will be hosted at London and Glasgow venues respectively and streamed over Virgin Media’s new Gig1 broadband connection.
“Music has the power to transport you back in time, relive memories and connect with others… With so many feeling nostalgic for the early 2000s, we cannot wait to bring back the iconic noughties house era with Club Rewind,” said a spokesperson for Virgin Media. “The unmissable sets from Ibiza legends Pete Tong and Carl Cox will be powered by Gig1, as we connect two clubs at opposite ends of the UK, with music-lovers also able to tune in from home.”
Looking into the results in a bit more detail, a quarter of adults in the 18-22 age bracket admitted to feeling envious over the clubbing experience their parents enjoyed, with three in ten wanting to participate in the clubbing scene of twenty years back.
